About Winter Park

Winter Park History

Winter Park sits in Fraser Valley, the first inhabitants of this area were the Ute and Arapaho Indian Tribes. Around 1850 the pioneers started to really settle in the area but the majority of settlers came with the railroad. Skiing started to become a big interest and in 1939 the first tow rope was put up. Winter Park Ski Resort is so huge now, there’s some awesome extreme terrain to explore. For this Winter Park Wedding and Elopement Guide, I’ll be including Winter Park, Fraser and Tabernash suggestions and recommendations.

Winter Park’s Best Wedding Month For:

Want to know when you're more likely to have the wedding of your dreams in the season that you're craving?!?! Well, the weather can be pretty unpredictable in Colorado! I'm here to give you the best possible chance for having a Winter Park skiing wedding or Winter Park summer wildflower wedding or a Winter Park fall wedding. These months are based on years of what I've witnessed but as you know, every year is different based on the amount of snowfall we get.

  • Winter Park’s Powder Day Skiing Wedding or Elopement - February

  • Winter Park’s Summer Wildflower Wedding or Elopement - July

  • Winter Park’s Fall Leave Hiking Wedding or Elopement - September

Winter Park’s Wedding Venues:

  • Headwaters River Journey - This Moderne Barn venue has plenty of spaces inside and out for your wedding day.  It's a perfect spot for the eco-conscious. This venue is a nonprofit organization focused on raising awareness about the critical role the Colorado rivers and their headwaters play in our environment, economy, and Colorado lifestyle.

  • Snow Mountain Ranch - Is perfect for a large wedding looking for kinds of activities on site. The summer wedding site is perfectly nestled in a valley surrounded by historic cabins. Join your guests in a modern reception site to party the night away.

  • Devil’s Thumb Ranch - If you're looking for a luxurious Ranch experience with mountain biking and ziplines, not necessarily on your wedding day but we can totally make that happen! I’m here for it! Adorable outdoor ceremony sites to choose from that are overlooking the mountains. Then head over to the reception site with grand outdoor decks and intimate fireplaces.

  • Lunch Rock - Share your love for the mountains with your family and friends with a scenic ride on the chairlift to your wedding site. At Lunch Rock you get amazing views for your ceremony of Parry’s Peak, James Peak, and Parsenn Bowl! After cocktail hour head inside for your reception in the lodge.

  • Wild Horse Inn - With a beautiful  outdoor ceremony site in the meadow amongst the trees and adorable cabins.  I think this is the perfect spot for an intimate winter wonderland wedding. They do have weddings here year-round and accommodate large summer weddings with an outdoor tent.

Winter Park Rehearsal Dinner or Reception:

  • Durbar Bistro - This Nepalese and Indian Bistro is perfect for medium-sized gatherings and delicious food. They also offer catering if you have a larger group.

  • Volario’s - If you're looking to go casual and really want everyone to join you for a pizza party this is a great spot.

  • Hideaway Park Brewery - For all the beer lovers This is the perfect Brewery for your taste buds.  They have a private lounge space for you and your guests. You would just need to utilize a food truck for catering so you guys don't get too tipsy the night before your wedding.

Winter Park Places to Stay:

For such a small town there's quite a lot of options to sleep. With tons of cute inns, lodges, and condos with a few National brand hotels you won’t know where to stay! I always suggest a in hotel when only staying for a night or two and highly suggest a house or a condo with a kitchen if you're staying longer than 3 days. That's usually my preference cuz I don't like to eat out three meals a day for longer than 3 days.  Below you'll find just a few of my recommended places to stay in Winter Park.

  • Trailhead Inn - I have to say the best part of the Trailhead Inn is the free mountain bike rental if you're coming from out of state without your mountain bike.

  • Vesquez Creek Inn - Has a log cabin feel that European flair that sounds great to me! Tiramisu here I come!

  • Winter Park Lodging - If you're looking for a great ski in ski out condo Winter Park, they have a ton of options for you and your family and friends.

  • Holiday Inn - I really like this adorable Holiday Inn in the mountains.  The customer service is always great and if you have points to use, even better!

  • Lux Custom Home - This house is just perfect for an intimate wedding or a long wedding week. The Honeymooners can have their own house on property dad a little bit more privacy. Note that the home doesn’t allow parties, please contact any Airbnb host directly and explain specifics if you have other plans in mind like a ceremony on their property.

  • Modern Lux Chalet - If you want to go all out and get a super modern line cabin then you should get this one!  talk about making your wedding weekend memorable with crazy lodging!

Winter Park Activities and Festivals

Winter Park Activities:

The very best thing about being in a cute little mountain town is that you have full access to everything outdoors. The main problem is going to be wanting more days in the mountains to do all the fun activities you want to fit in.

  • Hiking

    • One of the best ways to see the mountains! With a variety of levels you can make it a challenge or a nature walk. Just get out there!

  • Mountain Biking

    • From downhill madness at the ski resort to exploring the dirt, anyday on your bike is a good one.

  • Skiing & Boarding

    • So many runs to explore! One resort ticket with two mountains to explore and seven territories, go get them!

  • Fly Fishing

    • Fraser River is the main river that runs through town, it’s a great challenge to fly fish.

  • Golfing

    • Pole Creek Golf Club is a great place to get a round in.

  • Snowshoeing

    • If you want to slow down in the snow, it's great to take in the views at a slower pace.

  • Ice Skating

    • A great way to have an excuse to get a cup of hot chocolate!

  • Tubing

    • A fun family event, even at night! I just urge you to wear a helmet, it pretty much like bobsleighing!

  • Cross Country Skiing

    • Explore the wintertime and get a great workout in while taking in the views.

Winter Park Festivals:

While festivals are a fantastic town celebration, sometimes they can make wedding planning a bit difficult because of lodging, parking and day of transportation. It's always best to know what festivals or celebrations are happening in the town that you choose to have your wedding so you can plan accordingly. Part of the planning accordingly may be that your guests partake in the festivals! I mean how cool would it be to have your wedding day and then go to beer fest with all your guests the next day!

  • Winter Park Beer Festival - August

  • Mountain Oktoberfest - September

  • Jazz Festival - July
