Best Month for Winter Elopement

Winter Wonderland

Surrounded by snowy mountains with a fresh coat of snow is so dreamy and the way to get married in the winter time in Colorado. There is nothing like the beauty of snow in the mountains. It makes everything so quiet and calm, I just love it in the winter.

The snow brings a whole new set of activities to do in the mountains. The crisp air is so refreshing and the sunshine just seems that much warmer in the winter. I love sharing my joy of wintertime in Colorado with couples!

Climate In Colorado

Winter wonderland really starts in January! That’s when the ground is usually covered with snow and it looks like winter. Yes, you can start skiing around thanksgiving sometimes but it really is just one little lane made with fake snow. The great thing about wintertime look is that it can last all the way till April! At higher elevations the snow sometimes lingers till July but it starts to look a little muddy.

January and February are the coldest months! So be ready for lots of layers! I recommend that you wear leggings under your dress to keep you nice and warm. As well as have mittens and hats on standby! If you’re worried about you hair, you can always get cute ear muffs that won’t disrupt your hair in between! And I’ll bring the hand warmers to keep you toasty!

January, February, and March is wintertime in Colorado! Ski resorts and snow activities are in full swing and it looks and feels like winter!

I70 in the Wintertime

This is becoming more and more of a challenge these days! It’s best not to travel Friday afternoon till Sunday evening. That’s when all the weekend warriors travel to the mountains for the weekend. It can make an hour and a half drive well… forever! My max travel one instance was 7 hours! So just avoiding it all together during those times is best if you can! If not, I would suggest traveling in the morning.

Some tips if you have to drive during those times are check out the weather, look at the cameras on COTrip.org and bring lots of snacks, drinks and downloaded audiobooks. It’s really unpredictable during the weekend so get ready for it to be a slow drive and just be super thankfully delighted if it’s smooth sailing!

Adventurous Winter Elopement Activities

There’s so many wonderful things to do in the winter in Colorado! They can all be incorporated into your wedding day! With an elopement, you can do whatever you wanna do! Here are some ideas for your winter elopement activities!

Skiing

With 32 Colorado Ski Resorts to choose from, you can go skiing or snowboarding on your elopement day! Skiing in a wedding dress is super fun! You can party all day on the mountain on your wedding day! Taking in the best views in town from the chairlift! If you and your partner love to go skiing together, why not make it your wedding day activity!

Snowshoeing

This is perfect for couple who love to get out in the wilderness and enjoy the quite of it all! Snowshoeing to your venue is a lovely way to enjoy the snow and spend time with your parter on your wedding day! Plus, you can make it to a beautiful spot that’s perfectly secluded and so freaking dreamy!

Hot Cocoa Making

Who says winter wonderland has to be a cardio thing?!?! Snuggling up and making hot cocoa is a perfect way to enjoy the snow and stay warm from the inside out! Taking the time to do simple things together is what a relationship is all about!

Dogsledding

Love furry animals? Are just one of you adrenaline junkies? Then dogsledding might be just perfect for you guys! One person can relax in the sled and the other one can mush the dogs! It’s the perfect combination! And y’all both can take in the scenery and do what you love best!

Sleigh Riding

If you’re a rancher or like the slow pace in the snow, a horse drawn sleigh ride would be perfect! You guys get to snuggle up together in the sleigh and enjoy the ride to an epic spot to say your vows! What a fun adventure in the snow together!

Smore Making

Have a sweet tooth and love looking at the snow? Then making smores together on your winter wedding day could be in the cards! You can stay warm by the fire, make something delicious and take in the snow globe. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the snow and stay cozy!

Cross Country Skiing

This might th the ultimate cardio activity on the list! If you love running together, cross country skiing might be perfect for you guys! It’s a bit of cardio but you can get to your destination way faster than snowshoeing! It’s perfect for hard core couples who want to go the distance!

Sledding

I love finding the perfect sledding hill and playing in the snow! The only downside is that you have to climb up the hill! It’s perfect to avoiding crowds and playing like a kid again! Couples who play together stay together!

Ice Skating

There’s nothing better than spinning in a dress! There’s some wonderful lakes that ice up at higher elevations that are prefect for ice skating on! If you guys love to ice skate together this would be the perfect to add to your wedding day!

Tubing

The best thing about tubing is that you don’t have to worry about altitude, it’ll do all the work for you! You just have to show up! It’s a fun and exciting experience and would be perfect for a small elopement reception to celebrate after your vow exchange!

Hot Spring Soaking

What’s more romantic than soaking in a tub after you say, “I Do!” Snuggle in and stay warm as you take in the day! Hot springs are magical and rejuvenating places, just imagine celebrating a milestone in your relationship in one!

Building an Igloo or Snowman

Starting your marriage building something together, now that’s a symbol! It’s super fun to play in the snow then have an object at the end of it! And an Igloo is something you could even use! You could make it into a dressing room or your hotel room! I recommend an expert cause it is a little dangerous to build an igloo without proper ventilation! And a snowman is purely just fun!!

Snowball Fighting

I know, no fighting on your wedding day! I should just change it to snowball playing! It’s just another way to play in the snow together! You could even be bride and groom against guests so you’re on the same team!

Best Month For Winter Elopement In Colorado

It’s so difficult to pick a month that’s best! All and all I think that late March is the best for a winter elopement! It’s on the top of my list because of the temperature, snow levels and seclusion!

Temperature

It’s not cold outside in March! Hahaha okay, not THAT COLD, it’s still pretty chilly if you’re from Florida! The high in March is typically mid to upper thirties! That’s pretty warm for a winter day! You’ll still be in winter wonderland but the wind and super chill hopefully won’t be that dreadful!

Snow

There’s plenty of snow! Sometimes it’s actually the largest amount of snow per storm! So watch that weather! I recommend the end of March because of all the snowfall during the month and the resorts are open all month! The beginning of April is when the resorts start to close based on how much snow they still have left. So if you want snowsports on the resorts your best bet March.

Seclusion

It’s not as crowded at the resorts late in the season. Most of the mountain is open but there’s less vacationers and less holidays in March!

Just be aware of the spring break people if you’re going to the ski resorts but it won’t be as crowed as peak season during a holiday. The projected busy weeks of March are the week of the 5th for Florida, Illinois, Georgia and Texas colleges and the week of March 20th for Colorado colleges.
