About Lake Dillon

Lake Dillon History and Location

Lake Dillon was first thought to be a great idea in the early 1900s. Lake Dillon Reservoir was dammed by the Denver Water Board in 1961. The Town of Dillon was moved at that time before the Blue River filled the 3,233 acres of freshwater. Lake Dillion has three towns on its shore Frisco, Silverthorne, and Dillon. This Lake Dillon Wedding and Elopement Guide will include all the locations around the lake. It takes about 30 minutes to drive around the lake and about an hour and a half to bike around it.

Lake Dillon's Best Wedding Month For:

Want to know when you're more likely to have the wedding of your dreams in the season that you're craving?!?! Well, the weather can be pretty unpredictable in Colorado! I'm here to give you the best possible chance for having a Lake Dillion’s sailing wedding or Lake Dillion’s summer wildflower wedding or a Lake Dillion’s fall wedding. These months are based on years of what I've witnessed but as you know, every year is different based on the amount of snowfall we get.

  • Lake Dillion’s Sailing Elopement - June

  • Lake Dillion’s Summer Wildflower Wedding or Elopement - July

  • Lake Dillion’s Fall Leave Hiking Wedding or Elopement - September

Lake DillonWedding Venues and Elopement Ceremony Sites

Lake Dillon Wedding Venues:

  • Silverthorne Pavilion - You can get married right next to the river at the Silverthorne Pavilion.  Then walk on over to your reception just steps away.  The great venue year-round in the mountains.

  • 10 Mile - This is the perfect Mountain venue for a band.  You can get married outside on the rooftop deck then party the night away.

  • Windy Point - This is the perfect spot to get married on Lake Dillon.  It's actually a campsite with a structure so you have to build out your wedding vendors but you really can't beat the views if you want to be on the lake.

Lake Dillon Ceremony Sites:

  • Sapphire Point - This is the perfect spot to say your vows on the bluff above the lake.  You have great views of Peak One In this secluded yet easily accessible Mountain Lake location.

  • On a Sailboat -  If you are looking for more excitement for your day then maybe think about sailing on the lake for your micro wedding or elopement.  Not a better way to tie the knot, hehe!

  • Hiking Elopement - There are also tons of hiking around the lake that would be perfect for a hiking elopement.  the views of the lake in the mountains surrounding it never get old!

Lake Dillon Eats and Stays

Lake Dillon Reception and Rehearsal Venues:

  • Tavern West - This is a great spot full of intimate fireplaces and cozy feel. Oh and the food is fantastic.

  • Silverheels -  this is a great Steakhouse to gather friends in the heart of Frisco. yummy food great town to explore  all weekend.

  • 2 Below Zero -  If you're looking for more of an experience for your family and  friends look no further than 2 Below Zero. They will take you on an adventure on a sleigh ride to dinner.  it is perfect in the wintertime!

  • Dillon Dam Brewery - Of course for all you beer lovers out there, the Dillon Dam Brewery is the perfect table to gather all your friends and family to get there to celebrate.

Lake Dillon Places to Stay:

On Lake Dillon you will not find any ski resorts, they are very close by though,  so you will find plenty of lodging options.  From standard hotels to rentals.  I think the one I'm most excited about is the A-frame rental. It just looks so darn cute and has the best views. just remember most of the rentals do not allow pets or parties. Unless you are eloping you cannot use the rental for a backup location unless otherwise approved by the owners.

Lake Dillon Activities and Festivals

Lake Dillon Activities:

The very best thing about being in a cute little mountain town is that you have full access to everything outdoors. The main problem is going to be wanting more days in the mountains to do all the fun activities you want to fit in. I challenge you to see how many of these can you fit in over one weekend????

  • Hiking

    • There're so many great places to hike around there! The best part is you get to take in the views of the lake.

  • Mountain Biking

    • There are so many mountain biking single tracks to explore.

  • Fly Fishing

    • The River runs right by the outlet malls if one of you wants to shop in one of you wants to fish.  if you both love fishing then there are tons of places and nature close by where you can fly fish in serenity.

  • Snowshoeing

    • If you want to slow down in the snow, it’s great to take in the views at a slower pace.

  • Sailing

    • If you want a challenging sailing experience this is the place to get it! The wind is very gusty on the lake in the afternoon, get ready to fly!

  • Canoeing

    • A great way to explore the lake!

  •  Road biking

    • There's a great paved path around Lake Dillon that even includes a climb.  you can also add the loop into some other great paved paths that explorer the other towns close by.

Lake Dillon Festivals:

While festivals are a fantastic town celebration, sometimes they can make wedding planning a bit difficult because of lodging, parking, and day of transportation. It's always best to know what festivals or celebrations are happening in the town that you choose to have your wedding so you can plan accordingly. Part of the planning accordingly may be that your guests partake in the festivals! I mean how cool would it be to have your wedding day and then go to Oktoberfest with all your guests the next day!
