About Keystone

Keystone History

Keystone’s history started in 1941 as a ranch on the Snake River, the site of Ski Tip Lodge, oh and you can get married there! Because the town started as a ranch there is no downtown because there are not very many people ever living there it really took off in 1970 when the resort of Keystone opened. The main area covered in this guide is Keystone city limits that includes Keystone and Arapahoe Basin with a few that are slightly outside the postal code.  they're all still located within Summit County which is just a small section of. you can check out the Breckenridge wedding guide here. In this Keystone Wedding guide, you will find the best month for different types of weddings, wedding venues, reception sites, activities, and festivals. Let's get started!

Keystone Best Wedding Month For:

Want to know when you're more likely to have the wedding of your dreams in the season that you're craving?!?! Well, the weather can be pretty unpredictable in Colorado! I'm here to give you the best possible chance for having a Keystone skiing wedding or Keystone summer wildflower wedding or a Keystone fall wedding. These months are based on years of what I've witnessed but as you know, every year is different based on the amount of snowfall we get.

  • Keystone Powder Day Skiing Wedding or Elopement - February

  • Keystone Summer Wildflower Wedding or Elopement - July

  • Keystone Fall Leave Hiking Wedding or Elopement - September

Keystone Wedding Venues:

  • Black Mountain Lodge at Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort - If you're looking for the ultimate Colorado feeling Black Mountain Lodge has it all.  Everyone arrives on the chair lift to the wedding site on the deck overlooking the mountains and you can easily head inside for the reception. One of the coolest parts is everyone gets a  billion star view on the chairlift when they head home.

  • Grizzly Peak Trailhead at Loveland Pass - This is the perfect spot for an elopement anytime of the year.  from this trailhead you can hike 10 ft or 10 Mi to the perfect spot. There isn't a bad few from here!

  • Ski Tip Lodge at Keystone Resort - if you're looking for a little history and huge adorableness this little Lodge is for you. It sits right  next to a lake which you will view from the ceremony site in the backyard. There's just enough space for a tented reception In my favorite kind of dance floor which is outside.  guests can wander in and out and warm up next to the cozy fireplace.

  • Keystone Ranch - This is a perfect spot for a grand wedding an awesome party.  there's a huge Meadow for your ceremony site and plenty of room tents and large dance floors, to party the night away!

  • Timber Ridge at Keystone Resort - This is the perfect venue for a lux Mountain feel.  ride the gondola all the way do the backside of Keystone for views that are only you and your guests. This is the perfect spot for a private quiet ceremony overlooking the mountains with the reception site right next door.

Keystone Rehearsal Dinner or Keystone Reception Sites:

The best rehearsal sites in Keystone are right in Keystone Village.  with most of your guests staying within walking distance of the village it's such an easy way to get together the night before the wedding.  All three are pretty laid-back but can be spruced up and have great food.

Keystone Places to Stay:

  • The Springs at River Run - If you're looking for condo feel with a great pool, the Springs at River Run is where you want to be.

  • Condos at Keystone - If you want to make sure you rent a condo in Keystone Village they're the guys she got to talk to. there are plenty of buildings in options for you to look at.

  • Airbnb - There are plenty of condos and homes depending on group size  to rent around Keystone.

  • Hyatt - This is great if your guests are looking for a regular Hotel type of feel or only coming for one night.  Because let's face it no one wants to pay cleaning fee for one night.

Keystone Activities:

The very best thing about being in a cute little mountain town is that you have full access to everything outdoors. The main problem is going to be wanting more days in the mountains to do all the fun activities you want to fit in. I challenge you to see how many of these can you fit in over one weekend????

  • Hiking - There are so many great places to hike above treeline around there! The best part is you don’t have to walk to the top, you can just hike around and explore after you drive to take the gondola to the top.

  • Mountain Biking - Downhill mountain biking at two resorts, yes, please!!

  • Skiing & Boarding - So much terrain, I bet you can’t do it all in one weekend.

  • Fly Fishing - The Snake River offers so many great places to fly fish, it runs right through Keystone Village.

  • Golfing - Keystone has two golf courses to choose from, The Ranch Golf Course and The River Golf Course.

  • Disk Golf Course - This 18 hole Disk Golf Course is a great way to spend the afternoon outside.

  • Snowshoeing - If you want to slow down in the snow, it’s great to take in the views at a slower pace.

Keystone Festivals:

While festivals are a fantastic town celebration, sometimes they can make wedding planning a bit difficult because of lodging, parking, and the day of transportation. It's always best to know what festivals or celebrations are happening in the town that you choose to have your wedding so you can plan accordingly. Part of the planning accordingly may be that your guests partake in the festivals! I mean how cool would it be to have your wedding day and then go to Oktoberfest with all your guests the next day!

  • Oktoberfest - September - Get ready to drink beer in your dirndl and lederhosen.

  • Bacon and Bourbon - June - What goes better with bacon than bourbon?

  • Bluegrass & Beer - August - The closest thing to where I grew up, Appalachian Bluegrass with string bands and great Colorado beer!
